Xtreme Download Manager for MAC
Free, open-source download manager for Mac: faster segmented downloads, resume for broken transfers and a video grabber that works from your browser.
Xtreme Download Manager Overview
Xtreme Download Manager, or XDM, is a free, open-source download manager for macOS. It speeds up downloads by splitting them across several connections, picks up broken downloads where they left off and saves videos from streaming sites. A companion browser extension for Chrome, Firefox and other popular browsers hands downloads and detected videos to the app, so you do not have to copy links by hand. The extension talks to the app over a local-only connection.
XDM is made by Team XDM and released under the GPL-3.0 licence. Version 9 is a ground-up rewrite with a native Mac build, and the project says it is still in active development and that the code is being restructured often. There are separate downloads for Apple Silicon and Intel, and Java is included. One thing to know: the project's code signing policy covers only the Windows installers, so the Mac release is not covered by it. The minimum macOS version is not published.
Key Features
XDM handles ordinary files, video streams and whole pages of links.
- Faster downloads: segmented downloading over several connections.
- Browser integration: takes over downloads from your browser through its extension.
- Video grabber: saves HLS and MPEG-DASH streams as MP4 with no external tools.
- Resume: recovers downloads after network drops, crashes or power loss.
- Batch downloads: grab every PDF or image on a page, filtered by type, size or name.
- Scheduler and queues: start and stop on a schedule and limit parallel downloads.
- Proxies: supports HTTP and SOCKS proxies and server or proxy authentication.
- Checksums: check a finished file's hash from the download-complete window.
What’s New in Version 9.0.8
Xtreme Download Manager 9 is a ground-up rewrite. The notes for 9.0.8 list no separate changes, so these are the highlights of version 9.
- HTTP downloads write straight to the final file, with no slow assembling step
- More reliable HLS and DASH detection, with a choice of quality and audio track
- Right-click Download all with XDM to grab every PDF, image or video on a page
- A native macOS build for Apple Silicon and Intel, with light and dark themes
- A full disk or missing folder stops a download and keeps its progress
- Finished files are marked with macOS quarantine so Gatekeeper still checks them
